Please visit MARS if you'd like to adopt an Akita in need
Midwest Akita Rescue Society
PLEASE do not purchase a puppy from a pet store (they get their puppies from brokers who in turn get them from puppy mills) or a backyard breeder - do not accept excuses from "breeders" who do no genetic health testing such as hip and elbow x-rays, patella (knee) checks and yearly eye exams (by an opthamologist) - **ALL** of these are known health issues in Akitas and the only way to breed responsibly is to do these health checks and only breed dogs with normal results. Ethical, responsible hobby breeders do NOT make a profit off of their dogs. They feed high quality dog food that is not inexpensive and do all health checks on their dogs. This along with show expenses (entries, gas, tolls, hotels etc.) and all other expenses involved with raising, housing and breeding their dogs will amount to a large sum of money.

In loving memory of our first Akita
"Kyla" 12/22/90 - 9/11/03 Rest well sweet girl - we love you and miss you |
Our love affair with Akitas started in early 1991 with the purchase of Kyla, a pet quality female. We did it again the following year and purchased a pet quality male. Shortly after, we compared the quality/bloodlines of our dogs with those in the show ring and in Akita World magazine and decided that we wanted to build a base of high quality dogs to exhibit and breed and the rest is history !

We are ethical/reputable breeders for whom Akita showing/breeding is a hobby not a business. Our goal is to produce sound, typey, healthy Akitas with good temperaments. We show our dogs in conformation when time allows. We screen prospective homes and will not place an Akita in a home that we deem to be not compatible with the breed. Our puppies are always raised in our home, not in an outside kennel or a garage, and are well socialized from birth. They are used to the sights and sounds of a household, stereos, vacuum cleaners, kids playing etc.
We hope you enjoy our website and encourage you to contact us with any questions or comments. |
