Sales agreement and contract
We have spent many years showing and caring for Akitas. Careful planning and research goes into every
litter we produce and puppies are born into and raised in a loving, caring environment. We breed healthy,
problem free adults with stable temperaments and any animal we use for breeding will be free of any visible signs of hereditary problems such as hip dysplasia and eye problems. Our breeding dogs show
no signs of allergies or immune disorders and are not on thyroid medication. You have been provided
with copies of all genetic testing done on the parents of your Akita.

Seller and purchaser agree to the following:
Seller guarantees this Akita to be in good health at the time of sale and upon arrival to the purchaser. Upon taking possession of this Akita, purchaser has 3 business days in which to have an initial exam done on the dog by a licensed veterinarian at purchasers expense. If within 10 days from the date of purchase, the Akita is found to be in poor health attributable to the seller, purchaser may return the dog to the seller at sellers expense for a full refund of the purchase price less initial shipping expenses. A statement from purchasers veterinarian is required and dog must be returned to seller within 3 days of diagnosis for refund. Seller will not be financially responsible for any medical care that purchaser may elect to have done on this Akita.
If this Akita does not pass OFA certification for hip dysplasia (with a fair or better rating) or elbow dysplasia (with a normal rating), has patella luxation as diagnosed by veterinary palpation or does not pass eye certification (CERF Exam) by ACVO certified veterinary opthalmologist at the age of 24-26 months or if dog is diagnosed with VKH, pemphigus or SA before the age of 5 years, 1of 2 options is available to the purchaser as follows:
A.) If diagnosed disorder requires euthanasia of the dog, seller will replace the dog with one of sellers choice from the next available litter. Purchaser is responsible for any transportation costs of replacement dog. OR
B.) If diagnosed disorder requires extensive surgery to correct, seller will refund one half of the stated purchase price to purchaser upon proof of surgery being performed. Stated purchase price is the amount stated on this sales agreement and does not include any shipping fees. Dog must be spayed or neutered and proof provided to seller before refund will be issued.
Initials_______________
Copies of all veterinary reports related to the diagnosis will be required for refund or replacement. A second opinion by a veterinarian chosen by seller may also be required. Any of these disorders must be of a completely genetic origin and not the result of environmental factors, poor nutrition, accidents, or illness incurred after purchaser has taken possession of the Akita. Purchaser agrees not to breed this dog until the minimum health certifications of OFA certification of hips and veterinary ophthalmologist clearance of eyes have been performed, all with passing ratings. Purchaser also agrees not to breed this Akita to any dog who has not received these minimum health clearances. Hip, elbow, patella and eye warranty is void once dog has been bred.
Seller guarantees this Akita to be free of disqualifying faults as determined by the present AKC approved Akita breed standard. These faults being of a hereditary and not environmental nature. If found to have a disqualification, seller will replace with another show prospect dog from the next available litter upon receipt of written veterinary proof of spay/neuter. Purchaser is responsible for all transportation costs of this dog back to seller if so desired as well as transportation costs of replacement dog from seller to purchaser.
Seller will provide purchaser with any advice pertinent to the care, feeding, grooming, training etc. of the Akita upon request. We greatly discourage the use of “dog parks” for an Akita.
Purchaser agrees to maintain this dog in a healthy environment at all times. This includes adequate food, clean fresh water, proper exercise and medical care including required vaccinations. This dog must be kept as a house dog, in a secure kennel run or properly fenced yard with adequate shelter and be protected from abuse/teasing. Dog is not to be chained or allowed to run at large. Purchaser must not allow puppy to be raised on slippery flooring nor allow puppy to be roadworked until 2 years of age. This Akita is to be fed only a premium quality adult or large breed puppy food with meat as a first ingredient, no soy and be naturally preserved with no more than 26% protein and 16% fat content. Purchaser agrees to keep this Akita under control at all times and socialize it with humans and other animals. Dog is to be crate trained. Seller will not be held responsible for any damages caused directly or indirectly by this dog to property, humans or other animals, whether dog is owned solely by purchaser or co-owned by purchaser and seller and seller makes no warranty as to this dogs temperament. Purchaser understands that the Akita breed is a powerful, serious and dominant dog and as such, may challenge humans for the alpha position. Because of the nature of the breed, it is imperative for the purchaser to establish their dominance over the dog from the very beginning and to always maintain that dominance throughout the dogs life. All dogs have teeth and therefore are able to bite under the right circumstances. The majority of those that are bitten by dogs are children and most times, it is not the dogs fault. The vast majority of dogs give plenty of warning before they actually bite. Biting is a last resort for them and that is why it is important to understand dog body language and behavior. Children are to always be supervised around said dog. The Akita is not the breed for households that have an open door policy to children outside of their family. Seller has provided training and temperament materials to assist purchaser in the proper handling of said dog. If said dog has an unprovoked bite, it is to be humanely euthanized.
Purchaser is greatly encouraged to use the following supplement guidelines until the Akita is at least 2 years of age for joint/bone health:
Vitamin C tablets - dosed to bowel tolerance, meaning as high a dose the dog can tolerate without developing diarrhea. Vitamin C powder can be used for younger puppies (mix with a small amount of canned food) to make for easier administration. Give twice a day.
Glycoflex – can be purchased from the catalogs named in the recommendation sheet. Dosages are on the bottle. We prefer the Glycoflex 2 that has added MSM.
No added calcium supplements are to be given on a growing puppy.
Initials___________
This Akita is to be vaccinated no more than absolutely necessary for your living area. Vaccines are to be split up i.e. rabies vaccine is not to be given at the same time as another vaccine. Any procedures requiring anesthesia should not be done within 3-4 weeks of any vaccine unless that procedure is unavoidable (an emergency) at that time. Please read up on the harm that over vaccinating can do to an animal. Our Akitas are vaccinated no more often than every 3 years once their puppy series of vaccinations is completed.
Seller highly recommends that purchaser and said dog complete at least a puppy socialization class and an 8 week basic obedience course.
Purchaser agrees to be responsible for any and all expenses incurred by this dog upon taking possession of it and to notify seller of serious illness, injury or death of dog and/or of any changes in address or phone number.
Under no circumstances is purchaser to rely on internet chat forums, e-mail lists or other breeders for assistance in the raising, training and/or caring for this Akita without first consulting breeder/seller.
Purchaser agrees to use the prefix SHIOJIRI on the AKC registration of this Akita.
If dog is to be re-homed at any time, purchaser will consult with seller before proceeding with re-homing. Purchaser agrees to never sell or give this dog or any resulting offspring of this dog to any pet store, dog dealer, broker, research laboratory or guard dog business. No offspring shall be sold with breeding privileges unless they are of show quality. Seller will be informed of purchasers intent to spay or neuter this dog before surgery is performed.
This contract is valid only for the above named purchaser and described dog. Violations of this contract will result in legal action by seller to reclaim dog and offspring if applicable with no refunds being issued to purchaser and purchaser agrees to pay and and all expenses incurred by such action. Violations may also be subject to a $2,500 non-compliance fine being imposed on purchaser. Any legal action in regards to this sales agreement/contract will take place in the sellers county and state of residence. This contract is null and void in the event seller is no longer breeding Akitas or if any part of this agreement is violated.
There are no replacements or cash refunds offered except as outlined in this sales agreement.
By signing below, the purchaser and seller are agreeing to the terms and conditions set forth in this agreement in its entirety and seller acknowledges receipt of a copy of agreement.
